Events
By inviting Purbeck Ferret Rescue to attend your event you are supporting a non profit rescue. We attend both public and private events throughout the year, both outdoors and indoors. These include carnivals, country fayres, village fetes, corporate events and weddings. As well as offering ferret racing for a reasonable donation, we can attend with just our PR ferrets. We are based on the outskirts of Weymouth in Dorset but will travel to events.
You will need to complete our event enquiry form. Once we have receive your details, we will then send you further information and a booking form. Please note that we require a donation to attend an event with our ferret racing team.
Ferret racing: An incredibly popular fun activity, ferret racing will help attract visitors to your event. As an arena event it can help keep people at your event for longer. Our friendly ferrets love racing plus it is an ideal opportunity to promote them in a positive light. We actively encourage the public to meet our ferrets and usually have a selection of our adoptable ferrets included in our racing team. Racing comes naturally to ferrets as their wild cousins are experts in weaving and turning around in narrow tunnels. They are inquisitive creatures and enjoy interacting with people. There is no training or bribery involved for the ferrets, although our volunteers are partial to cake! Despite this we have no control over which ferret will win.
Our course can be adjusted to suit your space but usually consists of four lanes of pipes and coloured obstacles. We can adjust the length of the course and may conduct single, return or relay races. Once we have introduced our ferrets to the crowd, our compere will encourage the crowd to cheer as the ferrets prefer the excitement of a noisy audience. With a running commentary of the race, the ferrets negotiate the course as quickly as possible (if we are lucky) as the fastest ferret wins by a tail.
We ask for a donation from you in exchange for providing ferret racing at your event. We take small value bets on the outcome of the race with winners offered the opportunity to double their money. All money from your attendance donation and any raised on the day (if any) goes straight back into rescue. We have no control over the race outcomes. Our volunteers freely give up their time for us and usually bring their own ferrets to race.
We bring all necessary equipment; you just need to provide us with suitable space and the public. As well as space for the racing course and viewing public, we need room for our gazebo. A level shady spot on grass is preferred for our racing area. Bookings are taken on a first booked basis, upon receipt of payment and our completed booking form. We hold public liability insurance and can provide a risk assessment if needed. PR events: We also attend events where we do not provide ferret racing but promote the rescue and ferrets. We bring our ferrets to show you what amazing animals they are and to dispel some of the myths and stereotypes that surround them.

Volunteers: As with most rescues, we rely on volunteers to assist us. If you feel that you would like to help us at events then please complete our volunteer application. You do not need to own ferrets or have experience with ferrets. All you need is a willingness to help. We are a friendly team, with everyone pitching in to help to make it a fun enjoyable day for all.
