Found Ferret
Firstly, if you have found a ferret it needs capturing. Ferrets are domestic animals and there is no guarantee that they will survive without help. If needed we do have a live capture trap that can be borrowed.
If you can hold the ferret for a day or two until one of our volunteers can collect then that would be most helpful. You will need a secure cage or area as ferrets are great escape artists. For cages choose something with small bars; ferrets for example can squeeze out of a dog crate. Provide them with some fleece blankets or box to sleep in; they love dark sleeping areas. You will of course need to provide them with water. For food, leave down ferret kibble, cat food (preferably dry), raw meat or even cooked meat (no bones).
All ferrets on intake to the rescue are quarantined for a minimum of seven days. This is to ensure that nothing is passed onto our other ferrets. All ferrets are scanned for a microchip and if necessary treated for parasites. Vet treatment will be provided as necessary. As part of our adoption process, we carry out a home check as well as ensuring that ferrets are microchipped and neutered.
To report a found ferret, please complete the information below. We will then add the information to our website and circulate the information. We may need to contact you to obtain a photo if you have one as it may help reunite you with your missing ferret.
Please note that we are in Weymouth, Dorset and although we do use volunteers to help us to collect from Dorset and the neighbouring counties, we cannot collect from all across the UK. If you are not local we may ask to contact a nearer ferret rescue.
